Conclusion: En Route
Wednesday July 20, 2016
This little trip was an exploratory journey into my previous life where I first started after moving to BC. As things change, some for the better & some for the worse, it is inevitable that memories from simpler times will leave us longing for the good old days. I can remember being able to stop my car in the street to chat with someone driving in the opposite direction & the locals would take it all in stride & wait for a few minutes without any aggression on leaning on the horn. I think many of us cyclists still encounter that human aspect of being able to talk to some stranger or give them a hand without any fear of aggression oe bad attitude. Maybe it's a hold over from those simpler times. The trails in and around Vancouver Island are some of the best you will find anywhere. The people are friendly & helpful & will welcome you into their lives for the day & sometimes for a lasting friendship. Such is the nature of Real Canadians - Just keep them out of their cars. As the mileage on this trip was broken up by multiple ferries, side trips & back tracking, I thought it more appropriate to offer an estimated total rather than a daily account. I am frequently forgetting to start my computer anyway. Most of the trails here are easy to ride on. They are either flat or gentle hills on the Saanich Peninsula where you will be starting South towards Victoria. Total mileage for this portion of 'The Goose.' was about 125 miles & although I didn't make it to the start the Goose Trail, it was a great start to re-visiting my roots by bicycle instead of in a car. Part 3 & 4 will be upcoming later this Summer as I will be starting out from where I left off just on the outskirts of UP Town Victoria. If you wish to be notified when I add to this Journal please leave me a message. Thanks
